The Asosasyon ng mga Panaderong Pilipino (APP) promised on Saturday that bread and other products made from flour would continue to be priced reasonably, at least until the summer.

According to APP President Lucito Chavez in an interview, raw material suppliers have guaranteed that prices for bakery inputs would not change for the remainder of the second quarter.

He pointed out that a sudden spike in inflation, which in turn raised the cost of flour, sugar, milk, shortening, and diesel, was responsible for the series of bread price rises from the final quarter of 2022 to the beginning of this year.

According to Chavez, diesel is essential to the bakery sector since it heats the ovens used to produce bread in large quantities.

The costs of “tasty bread” (loaf bread) and the regional standard “pandesal” (salted bread) were raised by 10% to 15% in just more than three months, it was noticed, by both community and commercial bakeries.

However, Chavez said that traditionally, the demand for bread, cakes, and pastries declines during the dry season.

“In the summer, customers favor cold, hydrating snacks over sandwiches or bread. High temperatures always result in reduced sales for us. Price increases now are not a good idea. Thankfully, the inflation rate for our raw materials has stabilized, and we will pass the savings along to our clients, he continued.

The Cuenca Bakers Association, formerly known as the APP, has its symbolic headquarters in Cuenca, Batangas, which is said regarded as the country’s capital of bakers.

The majority of the bakeries run by its members are found in Metro Manila and the surrounding areas. It is currently the largest community bakers association in the nation.
