Rep. Francisco Jose Matugas of Surigao del Norte’s 1st District has applauded the participation of Siargao Island in the current 30th Arabian Travel Market in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

“The inclusion of Siargao Island in the Arabian Travel Market is a boost to our efforts to rise from the effects of the pandemic and the recent calamities that hit the island and the province of Surigao del Norte,” the legislator said in a statement on Wednesday.

Among the Philippine government’s representatives at the May 1-4 travel market tourism activity is Matugas, vice head of the House of Representatives Committee on Tourism.

At the travel market, the Department of Tourism has set up a booth to showcase the tourist destinations and attractions in the nation, including Siargao.

“The residents of Siargao Island and Surigao del Norte can be quite proud of this. According to Matugas, the Arabian Travel Market is one of the largest Middle Eastern travel exhibitions.

After being postponed by the pandemic in 2020, significant international events have resumed on Siargao Island, including the surfing and game fishing contests.

The 26th Siargao International Surfing Competition resumed in General Luna town in October of last year, and the 13th Siargao International Game Fishing Tournament started in Pilar municipality last month.

The Arabian Travel Market, according to its organizers, showcases tourist attractions and destinations from all over the world.

Throughout the event, the top names in lodging and hospitality, as well as cutting-edge travel technology providers and airlines, are highlighted.
