A digital driver’s license will soon be available from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to replace the physical card.

Driver’s licenses can be accessed electronically via a “super app” created by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), according to LTO chief Jay Art Tugade.

The benefit of the digital license is that drivers may show it to police when they apprehend them. It is similar to showing the driver’s license, according to Tugade, who made the statement in a news release on Monday. It did not specify a precise implementation and availability date for the digital version.

Because there aren’t enough plastic cards to print driver’s licenses on, the public can access the official receipt (OR) with the electronic version, according to Tugade.

Tugade stated that in addition to the digital driver’s license, the “super app” can be utilized for other businesses with the organization, including license registration, renewal, and online payments.

He continued that we also value how the super software works as a wallet by storing all government IDs on your mobile device, among other things.

According to Tugade, the digital version of a driver’s license has the same security measures as the physical form.

Greater service simplification and digitalization will ultimately help the agency eradicate corruption, according to Tugade.

To strengthen systems and procedures in government agencies through digitalization, the LTO, and the DICT formed an e-governance collaboration in March.
