To encourage public-private partnerships in the Philippines, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has arranged an “open to public” online business matching event with 10 Japanese technology companies on May 10.

The Japanese companies will present their cutting-edge technology and business strategies in a 10-minute pitch that could help the Philippines achieve its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“The general public is welcome to attend this event. To solve various development difficulties and explore the business potential for PPP, national and local government officials and representatives from private enterprises, including startups, research institutes, etc., are strongly encouraged to attend, the JICA said in a statement on Tuesday.

Presenters from the following companies will be featured:

Spectee, Inc., a provider of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for managing the risk of natural disasters;

Daisho Co. Ltd., a company that created slope protection technology to stop landslide catastrophes;

Aster Co. Ltd., which tested the “Power Coating” special coating material for earthquake resistance in cooperation with the University of Tokyo;

OM MFG Co. Ltd. developed an innovative wastewater treatment system;

Kanazawa Engineering Systems, Inc., which developed a ground-breaking method that recycles used cooking oil without purification as fuel for electric generators;

Hinode Sangyo Co. Ltd., which is renowned for its biological wastewater treatment technology;

FujiClean Co. Ltd., whose technique for wastewater treatment is well-known in both Japan and the US; Daikyo Giken-Kogyo Co. Ltd., which created an insect trap sheet so farmers could use fewer pesticides;

King Coal, Ltd., which provides resources for improving the soil in banana farms to combat new Panama illnesses; and

In order to hydrate crops, MKP Inc. and Berg Earth Co., Ltd. created a cocopeat technology.

The event is a collaborative project of JICA and TechShake to give Philippine government agencies, the corporate sector, and other organizations a chance to meet with businesses and take advantage of Japan’s most cutting-edge technology trends and developments.

According to the statement, “Japanese businesses can take advantage of the Philippine market’s potential in this way, and the Philippines can contribute to improvements in socioeconomic growth, living standards, and employment opportunities.”

The Japanese businesses selected for this matching event had been working with JICA through its marketing campaign for Public Private Partnerships (PPP).

Under the program, JICA solicits proposals from Japanese businesses with innovative and cutting-edge technologies or business models and implements the PPP pilot project that can sustainably address and resolve the development challenges facing the Philippines in several areas, including the environment, disaster risk management, and agriculture.
