Government employees will get cybersecurity scholarships from DICT and Google.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and tech giant Google Philippines will provide 500 qualified government employees and DICT employees with cybersecurity career certificate scholarships, equipping them with the knowledge and abilities to recognize and counteract common cybersecurity risks and threats.

In a news release on Tuesday, the DICT stated that qualified government workers and its employees will learn the skills for an entry-level career in cybersecurity even without prior experience through the self-paced curriculum spanning three to six months.

“The Google Career Certificate in Cybersecurity will assist in upskilling the Filipino labor force to be globally competitive. It will also give them the knowledge and abilities necessary to create a more secure and safe online environment and be resilient to cyberattacks. The DICT thanks Google for its kind assistance in the Philippines’ journey toward digital transformation and looks forward to additional chances for collaboration, according to DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy.

In collaboration with the DICT regional offices, the ICT Literacy and Competency Development Bureau is in charge of evaluating, nominating, distributing, and maintaining these accounts for eligible Google Career Certificate Scholarship applicants.

There is a global shortage of 3.4 million cybersecurity workers, according to the International Information System Security Certification Consortium’s Workforce Study.

Only 202 cybersecurity experts in the Philippines are certified as Certified Information Systems Security Professionals.

“It is crucial to expand the channels through which Filipinos can learn the necessary digital skills and effectively enter the cybersecurity industry. According to Bernadette Nacario, country director of Google Philippines, “Google is deeply dedicated to working closely with our local partners across the public and private sectors to assist in developing the next generation of cybersecurity personnel and experts in the country.
