The Gov. Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital in this city has opened a new outpatient department (OPD) to accommodate additional patients.

The Department of Health (DOH) funded the expanded OPD totaling more than PHP10 million through the Health Facilities Enhancement Program (HFEP). It was formally launched on Wednesday.

To provide more patients with basic and sufficient healthcare, Dr. Rogelio Balbag, executive director of the Ilocos Norte Hospital and Management Council, stated on Friday that the new outpatient department will house more medical specialists and visiting consultants.

In an interview, Balbag stated that the extended OPD would soon include more services, such as rehabilitation medicine, radiology, orthopedic surgery, and other experts. The OPD is open on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The OPD’s departments are currently internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and surgery.

Guards on duty restrict the admittance of patients seeking medical consultation to prevent crowding at the OPD.

This time, more people can be accommodated because of ongoing facility upgrades and enhancements to healthcare offerings.

The provincial hospital has hired private medical professionals as visiting doctors, consultants, and specialists.

According to the agreement’s memorandum, the private physician must utilize the provincial hospital’s resources, including its staff and facilities.

In exchange, they must actively engage in hospital activities and contribute their knowledge to provide free services to patients staying in any basic or ward accommodations.
