The P2.5-B, 12-story NBI headquarters’ construction has started.
The National Bureau of Investigation’s (NBI) long-awaited headquarters is expected to finish in 2026.
The new PHP2.5 billion, 12-story headquarters was officially implemented on Tuesday at the old location at the intersection of UN and Taft Avenues in Ermita, Manila, under the direction of NBI Director Medardo de Lemos.
Three towers, a multi-level parking lot, a dormitory for temporary agents and staff, a gym, a shooting range, and a lab for forensic equipment will all be included in the new NBI complex.
De Lemos added, “We leave the wealth of our memories in the ancient building. “NBI agents, staff members, and employees have lived and stayed in this building for almost two generations.”
In 2019, the Manila municipal government deemed the NBI headquarters unsuitable, and staff moved to the V-Tech Tower in Araneta Avenue, Quezon City.
The Department of Public Works and Highways condemned the 49-year-old structure in 2015.
According to De Lemos, the new structure constructed on the property’s almost 50,000 square meters “will give way to the coming of a more modern, better, and more comfortable working environment for all of us.”
Finally, he said, the building process may begin “through our friends and supporters” in the Senate and House of Representatives.
De Lemos stated, “We have been dreaming of this for so many years, and it was only last year that this dream would come true when they funded the project for PHP450 million.”
Additionally, the NBI will develop a three-story structure in Legazpi City, Albay, that will also function as a training facility for future agents.
