On Sunday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. gave the Special Forces Regiment Airborne (SFRA) of the Philippine Army his word that his administration would continue to improve their skills.

Marcos made the promise in Fort Magsaysay in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija, during the SFRA’s 61st-anniversary celebration.

Marcos promised the troops in his speech, “We assure you of the administration’s unwavering commitment and that of your commander-in-chief’s backing in all of your activities, increasing your capacities, and ensuring your welfare and your families.

According to Marcos, as part of the modernization of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the government has chosen the Riverine Operations Equipment Project (ROEP).

Referring to the insertion and extraction of special forces personnel for rescue and other special military operations, he claimed that this would further enhance the SFRA’s capabilities in riverine operations.

At the occasion, Marcos also expressed his appreciation for “the fortitude and prowess of the men and women in the special forces who dedicated their lives to public service.”

“Extensively trained in unconventional warfare [and] equipped with various tools and capabilities, the members of the SFRA have proven themselves valuable in both wartime and peacetime operations,” he claimed.

“We have proven competence and professionalism even in the most difficult times, from combating terrorist groups in the nation to supporting peacekeeping operations overseas.”

Marcos noted the actions taken by the SFRA’s fourth Special Forces Battalion in March that allowed 316 people to be rescued from an Aleson Shipping Lines passenger ship that was on fire and headed towards Jolo Port.

In addition, the President commended the recipients of the SFRA’s 61st-anniversary awards for their outstanding service and contributions to the regiment.

“You have demonstrated self-sacrifice and fortitude by going above and beyond the call of duty to protect communities to achieve internal security, peace, and the Republic. I believe it is safe to conclude that you have earned the “Silent Professionals” title, he stated.

“Truly, you have been key players during conflicts and developed into trustworthy sentinels for the Filipino people. You have given our towns a glimmer of hope through your humanitarian aid initiatives and raised people’s confidence in the military and the government.

Marcos exhorted the SFRA to stand behind the Filipino people in times of need.

“On that topic, we urge you to continue helping Filipinos by standing by them during difficult times. Marcos stated that maintain the morale of the individuals you serve by ensuring their safety and well-being during operations.

May you all keep developing your skills and empowering yourself to maintain your authority on unconventional warfare tactics.

Along with other members of the Cabinet, Gilbert Teodoro Jr., the National Defence Secretary, and Anton Lagdameo, the Special Assistant to the President, attended the SFRA’s anniversary.

Gen. Andres Centino, chief of staff of the AFP; Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., commander of the Philippine Army; Lt. Gen. Fernyl Buca, and Brig. Gen. Ferdinand Napuli, head of the SFRA, joined them.
