Workers in Cebu City’s LGUs are being asked to adopt the ‘no vax, no bonus’ rule.

Acting Mayor Michael Rama repeated his demand on Tuesday for city employees to accept his “no vaccine, no bonus” policy, which is aimed at hastening the coronavirus illness vaccination rollout in 2019. (Covid-19).

He reminded staff of the government’s efforts to meet the 70% population protection objective by Christmas in a press conference.

“As your acting mayor, I also mean business when it comes to ensuring City Hall personnel get vaccinated.” No bonus if you don’t get your bakuna (vaccination). So, what exactly are you waiting for? “Get your vaccinations,” Rama said.

He also reminded city residents that those who are vaccinated have a chance to win items in the “PaBakunaTa Bonanza” lottery draw, which ends on December 23.

Meanwhile, Rama stated that the city supports President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision to repeal the law requiring the use of face shields in public areas.

Duterte approved the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) recommendation on Monday, eliminating the mandatory usage of face shields in areas under Alert Levels 1 to 3.

Rama said the convergence group that advised him on the Covid-19 response also suggested not wearing a face shield, prompting him to issue a decree on November 10 enabling residents to attend malls, restaurants, and other indoor venues without wearing one.

Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, head pathologist of the Department of Health (DOH)-Central Visayas, said Tuesday that the relaxation of regulations, including the wearing of face shields, is “a welcome development.”

“However, let us make it one of our personal advocacies to be more vigilant than ever before in safeguarding our own and our family’ safety.” In a letter to the Philippine News Agency, Loreche advised that “keeping a safe distance and avoiding crowded spaces, proper usage of face masks and hand washing, and selecting well-ventilated areas over enclosed spaces should be the norm.”

She advised the public to show their appreciation for the President’s decision by becoming completely vaccinated against Covid-19.
