2.1 million water bottles distributed to communities affected by ‘Odette’: OCD
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has delivered 1.74 million liters of potable water to communities hit hard by Typhoon Odette earlier this month.
During the pre-recorded Talk to the People on Monday night, OCD Assistant Secretary Hernando Caraig Jr. told President Rodrigo Duterte, “In terms of water, Mr. President, OCD delivered 1.74 (million) liters or 2.1 million water bottles.”
Caraig made the comment in response to an inquiry from the President on whether typhoon-ravaged communities have a reliable supply of drinking water.
The Lucio Tan Group and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce also provided 1.9 million liters of water, he added.
“And we still have 2.175 (million) liters in reserve to deliver to the impacted regional districts for a total of 5.2 (million) liters,” he added.
Caraig also stated that the Lucio Tan Group’s water donations will continue till the end of the month.
“As I previously stated, the remaining 2.1 million liters, or 4,350,000 bottles, will be given to the various locations, or regional areas, including Mimaropa, Regions 7, 8, and Caraga. These are the areas in need of bottled water “he stated
Caraig further stated that the logistics cluster of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, which is also led by the OCD, had delivered approximately 6.49 million kg of various relief materials thus far.
He also stated that “Odette” has touched 2.3 million families, totaling 8.1 million people.
The typhoon left 406 people dead, 65 people missing, and 1,265 people injured.
“Damage to houses: There are 1.3 million houses that have been damaged, with a cost estimate of PHP64 million. We have PHP18 billion and PHP11.7 billion for infrastructure and farm damage, respectively “Caraig explained. (
