Virtually seeing the Philippines: The Department of Tourism (DOT) has launched a new ‘ASMR’ travel experience.
On Saturday, the Department of Tourism (DOT) inaugurated a program that will digitally transport passengers to Philippine attractions by combining the natural sounds of the region.
The “ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) Experience the Philippines” project provides travelers with ASMR videos that allow them to connect with nature and be fully present in the moment.
The inaugural video on DOT Philippines’ Youtube channel is an ASMR tour of Mountain Province in the Cordillera region, which takes viewers on a virtual walk of the mountain starting in Barangay Macalana.
The 360-degree immersive sound film promises to immerse viewers in the action, allowing them to hear the lifelike sounds of a gushing river, a trickle of water, and even the thuds of footfall.
ASMR is defined as a “unique perceptual phenomena in which some people can experience a tingling, static-like sensation in reaction to specific auditory or visual stimulations,” according to the Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology.
It induces a pleasurable sensation in response to specific sounds, sights, sensations, or descriptions. The sensation induces happiness and relaxation.
“The Department of Transportation’s research is based on the idea that when people travel, they go sightseeing,’ but they hear and perceive things all around them with their ears. People can share their vacation experiences through these recordings, according to Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat.
On the agency’s portal, four inaugural ASMR films will be streamed, highlighting various locales in the Mountain Province, including a journey to the summit of Mt. Amuyao.
“With Mountain Province currently on Alert Level 4 and the rest of the country under various alert level limitations, these videos will allow people to enjoy the magnificence of Mountain Province through their video devices no matter where they are,” the DOT said.
The following video series will focus on Ilocos Norte, followed by Visayas and Mindanao destinations.
