In the most recent genome sequencing run, no Omicron variants were discovered.

The latest 48 samples sequenced on Dec. 8 revealed no cases of the Omicron variant, according to the Department of Health.

There were 38 Delta variant cases out of 79.17 percent of the samples sequenced, with the balance having non-variant of concern lineages or no lineages discovered.

Twelve returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs) and 36 local cases from regions with high-risk average daily attack rates and case clusters were used in the most recent sequencing run.

There were 31 local instances and seven ROFs among the additional 38 Delta variant cases.

Two ROFs came from Turkey, while one each came from Jordan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Panama, and Peru.

Six of the 31 local cases had addresses in the Cagayan Valley Region, while five were from the Cordillera Administrative Region, three from Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Soccsksargen, and the National Capital Region, two from Central Luzon and Calabarzon, and one from Davao.

One local case is still open, 27 local and all seven ROF cases have been labeled as recovered, and three local cases are still being checked as to their results, according to the case line list.

The regional and local health departments are validating all other details.

According to the most recent whole genome sequencing update, there are now 7,886 Delta variant cases.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has agreed with the Department of Health that the existing Covid-19 Alert Level status should not be downgraded due to the threat posed by the Omicron form.

“The moment isn’t yet ripe because it’s the holiday season, but we’ve noticed more individuals becoming complacent to go outside, neglecting health regulations, and oblivious to the risks,” PNP commander Gen. Dionardo Carlos said on Wednesday.

Despite the lower trend in new coronavirus cases, Carlos believes that a transition to a more permissive methodology could have an influence on adherence to minimal health requirements.
