The country’s largest bus company, Yanson Group of Bus Companies (YGBC), based in Bacolod, has welcomed the relaxation of travel restrictions to boost economic activity in the wake of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) epidemic.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Matriarch Olivia Yanson, company secretary and treasurer said that placing the important cities under Alert Levels 3 and 2 makes it easier for people to travel for work and pleasure.

Yanson emphasized this in her presentation to the annual stockholders’ meeting of Goldstar Bus Transit Inc., one of the YGBC’s companies that plys important routes in Luzon, on Monday.

Vallacar Transit Inc., Ceres Liner Travel and Tours Inc., Mindanao Star Bus Transport Inc., Bachelor Express Inc., and Southern Star Bus Transport Inc. mostly serve commuters in the Visayas and Mindanao.

Despite the ongoing challenges of the Covid-19 outbreak, Leo Rey Yanson, president and chief executive officer, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to delivering the most reliable mode of public transportation to Filipino travelers.

Despite the financial difficulties brought on by the health crisis, the YGBC, which employs 18,000 people, is not resorting to layoffs, according to the elder Yanson.

“Our operations were severely hampered. Despite the worldwide economic downturn, my youngest son, Leo Rey, ensures that no employees are laid off,” she added.
