In the wake of the resumption of PH tourism, health precautions have been put in place: Palace
As the country opened its doors to arriving foreign nationals for tourism and business, Malacanang guaranteed that health and safety precautions against the Covid-19 epidemic are in place.
This follows the release of revised recommendations on the entrance, testing, and quarantine measures for foreign nationals entering the Philippines by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).
“We’re confident that, as a result of these protocols, we’ll be able to ensure that, first and foremost, ang tourism industry natin, mapapabangon natin muli ang ating tourism industry, makakatulong po ito ng malaki sa mga lubos naapektuhan sa sector na iyan, lalong-lalo na po ang ating mga workers
The rules established for the restoration of the tourism industry, according to Nograles, will help the country’s economic growth and development.
He went on to say that it will also resuscitate all other tourism-related industries.
“Iyan sa iba’t ibang industriyang linked sa turismo po magkakaroon ng cascade impact (It will provide a cascading effect in different tourism-related industries). However, we will be able to ensure it provided everyone follows the basic health and safety guidelines “Nograles remarked.
The public’s stringent compliance and commitment to the government’s set of health and safety procedures, according to Nograles, will also ensure that the tourism industry’s reopening does not result in an increase in Covid-19 instances in the country.
“At the same time, we need to increase our immunization efforts,” he continued.
Nograles reminded the public that the country only accepts foreign nationals who are completely immunized.
Inbound foreign nationals must also provide a negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test taken within 48 hours of departure from their country of origin or initial port of embarkation in a continuous journey to the Philippines, barring layovers, according to him.
Meanwhile, the Overseas Employees Welfare Administration (OWWA) hopes the government would not reinstate the mandatory quarantine for returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
“Hopefully it will not be imposed again,” OWWA chief Hans Leo Cacdac said in a Laging Handa briefing Thursday. “We joined the calls by Secretary Silvestre Bello (Department of Labor and Employment) and Secretary Berna Puyat (Department of Tourism) earlier, as much as possible, give more time to our OFWs to be with their families.”
He went on to say, “They may only conduct their home quarantine or self-monitoring in their LGUs.”
Cacdac, on the other hand, indicated that if the government decides to reimpose the mandatory quarantine, the agency’s workers will be ready to help to return OFWs.
“We also took note of the phrasing of IATF-EID (Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases) Resolution 159, which states that no facility-based quarantine is temporarily suspended but can be reimposed at any moment.” Our OWWA front-liners in support of front-liners number 2,000 people across the country. We have roughly 1,100 front-line supporters in the NCR alone. As a result, we are prepared in the event that the required quarantine is reinstated,” Cacdac added.
He stated that just 1,582 OFWs are currently residing in 51 hotels that serve as quarantine facilities.
