In SoCot, BFP constructs three fire stations.
CITY OF KORONADAL – South Cotabato’s Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has erected three substations to boost the province’s swift response.
Three of the province’s 11 local government units have already activated their fire substations, according to Senior Fire Officer 1 Phillip Chan, a spokesman of the BFP-South Cotabato.
“In the village of Surallah, we already have substations.” Aside from the substation in Barangay Cannery, another substation is being built at Barangay Glamang in the municipality of Polomolok. At the city’s public terminal, Koronadal has a sub-station,” Chan explained.
According to him, the substations were built in strategic locations so that fires in all regions of the municipality or city would be responded to quickly.
“We have what we call response time,” Chan explained. “Supposedly, BFP employees can respond to fire accidents within a five- to a seven-kilometer radius in five to seven minutes.”
He further stated that the BFP-South Cotabato currently has 290 firefighters, 211 of them are male and 79 of whom are female.
“They’re delivered to all of the fire stations in South Cotabato,” Chan added.
He acknowledged that a lack of staff is a persistent issue for all BFP units around the country, but emphasized that their main headquarters is doing all possible to address the issue.
