MANILA – Honey Lacuna-Pangan, the incumbent vice mayor of the City of Manila, has set her sights on becoming the country’s first female mayor.

Lacuna, who is also a medical doctor, stated during Sunday evening’s Asenso Manileo proclamation rally in Sampaloc that if she wins the race, she will be the first member of her family to serve as mayor. Additionally, she serves as the city’s first female vice mayor.

“lyong sinasabi nila na ang apelyidong Lacuna ay hanggang pang Vice Mayor lang, sa pagkakataon niyo, babasagin ko po iyon,” Lacuna said.

“Ngayon, sa tingin ko, may isang Lacuna na magiging alkade, na kauna-unahang babaeng Mayor sa loob ng 450-year-history ng ating lungsod (Now, I believe a Lacuna will become mayor, the city’s first female mayor in its 450-year history).

Lacuna is up against three other aspiring mayors who come from political families and are either sons or daughters of former mayors of the city: Alex Lopez, the eldest son of former mayor Mel Lopez Jr.; Cristina Lim-Raymundo, the daughter of the late former mayor Alfredo Lim; and Amado Bagatsing, the son of former mayor Ramon Bagatsing.

Lacuna is Danny Lacuna’s eldest daughter.

According to Commission on Elections data, there are six official candidates for the position.

Onofre Abad, an independent, and Elmer Jamias, of the People’s Reform Party, are the other two candidates.

Meanwhile, actor Raymond Bagatsing, Lacuna’s running mate Yul Servo Nieto, Lucy Lapinig of the Partido para sa Demokratikong Reporma, and independent Arvin Reyes are vying for the vice mayor position.

Twenty candidates are running in the First District, fifteen in the Second District, nine in the Third District, twenty-two in the Fourth District, twenty-two in the Fifth District, and fifteen in the Sixth District.
