A NegOr health executive advises parents to have their children vaccinated.
DUMAGUETE CITY — On Tuesday, a top health official in Negros Oriental asked parents to get their children vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), as the Department of Education (DepEd) begins to phase in face-to-face lessons.
Dr. Liland Estacion, Assistant Provincial Health Officer, delivered her appeal in a virtual press conference, despite the province recording fewer Covid-19 instances.
“Parents, please have your children vaccinated against Covid-19 because once they return to face-to-face classrooms, their exposure to other people increases,” Estacion urged in a combination of English and Cebuano.
According to records as of April 5, the province has fully vaccinated a total of 78,925 “school learners,” or youngsters aged 5 to 17 years old.
The first bracket’s goal is 196,226 children, while the second bracket’s goal is 164,894 children, for a total of 361,120 children.
According to Estacion, the province now has plenty of vaccines accessible, and residents can even choose whatever brand they like.
Some schools in Negros Oriental have already begun their in-person lessons.
Dr. Adolf Aguilar, superintendent of the Bais City DepEd division’s schools division, said limited face-to-face lessons had been held in batches in his area of coverage since late March.
Meanwhile, according to Estacion, the province has been continuously recording a low number of new Covid-19 cases in recent weeks.
Estacion said her office got 444 swab test results from March 28 to April 5, with 427 negatives (including 20 recoveries), 14 new cases, two repeat-swab positives, and one re-infection.
Negros Oriental had a total caseload of 23,528, with 22,770 recoveries, 741 fatalities, and 17 active cases.
