For food security, Isko will include agriculture in the STEM curriculum.

MANILA – In order to secure food security, Aksyon Demokratiko standard-bearer Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso pledged to boost the country’s agriculture sector by adding it to current Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) curricula.

On Wednesday, at a campaign stop in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, Domagoso promised to invest in STEM courses, including Agriculture, to help students in the province, as well as the rest of the country, become competitive.

“Kaya yung STEM magiging STEAM,” says the narrator. S, T, E, and maybe A and M. A stands for agriculture, which is being taught as part of the curriculum in order to determine how to best prepare a student for a career in pagsasaka or pagtatanim. “A will stand for agriculture, which we will aim to reintroduce as part of the curriculum to assist individuals who rely on farming for a living,” he explained.

Domagoso believes that increasing agriculture courses in the province is critical, given that agriculture accounts for the majority of the province’s economy, as it does for most of the country’s rural areas.

Furthermore, he stated that investing in STEAM courses will better equip students with technological expertise, allowing them to compete with international pupils.

While campaigning in many provinces across the country, Domagoso said he witnessed the pain of farmers, who, in truth, are the ones that feed the entire country and provide long-term food security.

Meanwhile, Domagoso underlined the significance of a reintegration program for abroad Filipino employees who come home (OFW).

He claims the government may use government agencies like the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Agriculture to accomplish this (DA).

“Maaaring meron. Is it possible for you to integrate? Sila ay makapaghanap-buhay sa DTI or bumalik sa pagtatanim, sa agriculture, dalawang bagay yan. Ang Department of Agriculture, kailangan naman ng gobyerno uli’t doon. Ito yung mga dapat na iniisip natin kaysa yung mga away-away lang ng mga pulitiko (They may have some money or own a home, but there are also those who do not.) How can we bring them together? They can start their own business with the support of DTI, or they can get into farming with the help of DA. In sum, instead of quarreling political rivals, these are the issues that need to be addressed),” he stated.

Under his 10-point Bilis Kilos Economic Agenda, Domagoso reiterated that his administration will focus on an economic policy that promotes “Life and Livelihood,” with the goal of addressing poverty, hunger, unemployment, inequality, and social injustice through an inclusive and equitable infrastructure development program.
