For Holy Week, NegOcc catastrophe units are on ‘blue alert.’

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – During Holy Week, all disaster response units in Negros Occidental, led by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), will be on “blue alert.”

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz II issued the decision on Friday with the authority of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and in accordance with Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Memorandum No. 30.

On Saturday, Diaz added, “All city and municipal DRRM offices are encouraged to raise their alert status.”

A “blue alert” situation necessitates the presence of at least half of the affected personnel at all times.

Diaz asked the disaster offices in Negros Occidental to step up road safety measures and begin planning for the likely deployment of responders to several confluence locations.

“These include gatherings of a significant number of people, particularly in churches and on beaches in your various jurisdictions,” he continued.

He also directed the city and municipal DRRMOs to submit to the PDRRMC Operations Center a report on readiness measures and reactions, action plans, and any untoward incidents observed between April 9 and 18.

In the meantime, due to the existence of Tropical Depression Agaton, all disaster response units have been urged to put on high alert.

Diaz believes that they must increase their readiness and take proper precautions in the event of flooding, flash floods, or landslides.

“Make sure rivers are clear of obstructions, evaluate contingency plans, and reduce the chance of disaster in your area,” he added.
