Manila purchases Bexovid, a Covid-19 medication for people aged 12 and up.
MANILA, Philippines — On Thursday, the Manila city administration received an order for Bexovid, a medicine used to treat mild to moderate coronavirus illness 2019 (Covid-19) in people aged 12 and up.
The Manila City Hall received a total of 2,500 boxes of oral antiviral medicines.
In a statement, Manila Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso said, “Ang nasabing gamot po ay may (The mentioned treatment has a) 90% efficacy in averting hospitalization and mortality in high-risk patients.”
The Food and Medicine Administration (FDA) approved a compassionate special permit (CSP) for the treatment drug Bexovid in January of this year.
It was approved for usage in the United States as the first generic version of Pfizer’s Paxlovid, the first oral treatment for Covid-19.
When taken within three to five days of the commencement of symptoms, the FDA stated Bexovid could help reduce the risk of hospitalization and death by 88 to 89 percent.
Despite the continuous drop in the number of cases, the municipal government continues to prepare and strive to enhance its fight against the dreaded Covid-19 pandemic, because no one can anticipate when and how strong its next form would be, according to Domagoso.
He also mentioned that the initial shipment of Bexovid medications came in 2,500 cartons, which is enough for 500 patients.
For an undisclosed sum, the local government has ordered 5,000 cartons of oral antiviral medicine.
