Ateneo promotes intercultural and interreligious communication through OPAPRU.

MANILA, Philippines โ€” Peace activities are still being integrated into the “Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together” by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU).

The OPAPRU announced on Thursday that it has teamed with the Madaris Volunteer Program (MVP) of Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) to effectively promote intercultural and interreligious conversation through a virtual “brown bag” session.

The OPAPRU wants to strengthen its ties with academic institutions and other peace partners so that it may successfully convey the “Document on Human Fraternity,” which was signed by Pope Francis and Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmad Al-Tayyeb in Abu Dhabi on February 4, 2019.

The online “brown bag” session, according to OPAPRU, intends to promote and integrate the Human Fraternity Document’s concepts into the peace-building initiatives of various learning institutions and other peace partners.

According to OPAPRU Undersecretary Isidro Purisima, the document will serve as a guide to help the country maintain its peace gains.

“We must love, support, and help one another regardless of ethnicity, culture, or religion, as the Document on Human Fraternity instructs us.” “In our own small manner, every one of us can make a difference,” he remarked.

Purisima stated in support of the document that OPAPRU is committed to continuing to champion the values of all peace-building efforts carried out around the country.

Meanwhile, AdDU Theology Department Chair Dr. Roawie Quimba emphasized the document’s significance in fostering a deeper feeling of unity among all men and women of goodwill who are invited to “advance justice and peace while protecting human rights and religious freedom.”

Women and youth, he noted, play an important role in establishing a culture of peace and understanding.

Furthermore, Dir. Vanessa Pallarco, the leader of OPAPRU’s Social Healing and Peace-building Unit, stated that the document’s adoption will strengthen existing efforts to promote peace education as a basic peace-building strategy in social cohesion integration into communities.

“The Human Fraternity Document’s release is part of the agency’s ongoing attempts to include the document into its efforts to establish viable venues for enhanced discourse through peace education at all levels,” she explained.

The OPAPRU, according to Pallarco, plans to repeat these efforts with other academic institutions.

In November 2021 and February 2022, the OPAPRU and AdDU signed a memorandum of understanding to formalize their relationship for the launch of the Human Fraternity Document, which is currently underway among peace partners in Mindanao’s academic sector.
