The problems with PH sugar are discussed by PBBM and food producers.
On Monday, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. met with representatives of the Philippine Chamber of Food Manufacturers, Inc. (PCFMI) to examine potential remedies for the nation’s inadequate sugar supply.
Marcos stated on his official Facebook page that he had discussed solutions with members of the Philippine Chamber of Food Manufacturers to the nation’s shortage of sugar. “Tayo ay nakipagtalakayan sa mga miyembro ng Philippine Chamber of Food Manufacturers upang masolusyunan ang kakulangan ng asukal sa bansa,” Marcos wrote.
No additional information was provided, but the President reaffirmed that the government would make steps to restrain the rise in sugar prices in order to maintain business operations and protect job security.
“Hangad natin ang maayos na takbo ng mga negosyo at magkaroon ng seguridad sa trabaho ang mga kababayan natin sa industriya ng fast-moving consumer goods o FMCG kaya naman ating sinusuri ang pagtatakda ng malinaw na sistema na

Marcos said the government is still open to the idea of importing up to 150,000 metric tons (MT) of sugar, but only if the supply runs out by October in his weekly vlog, which was broadcast on Sunday.
Earlier, he denied the Sugar Regulatory Administration’s (SRA) request to import 300,000 MT of sugar in response to rumors that he had authorized the importation via an apparently signed order.
The SRA’s chairman, Marcos, reaffirmed that the nation still has a sufficient supply of sugar.
He insisted that the administration will emphasize increasing production while reducing imports.
There is a “clear indication” of the nation’s supply of sugar being rapidly depleted, according to resigned Agriculture Undersecretary Leocadio Sebastian, who spoke at a joint briefing on Monday by the House committee on good government and public accountability and the committee on agriculture and food.
After approving a document that would have permitted the importation of 300,000 MT of sugar without the President’s consent, Sebastian resigned from his position.
Zenaida Angping, the head of the Presidential Management Staff (PMS), Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile, Secretary of Socioeconomic Planning Arsenio Balisacan, and newly appointed Agriculture Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban were also present during the meeting.
