Dagupan City offers free rice to citizens who receive vaccinations.

Three kilograms of rice will be given away by the local government as a reward to people who receive the coronavirus illness 2019 (Covid-19) vaccination and booster shots.

The immunization program is being carried out in the neighborhoods, according to Marcelino Fernandez, president of Liga ng mga Barangay, to make it more accessible to the populace.

In a radio broadcast on Friday, he stated, “I advise our kababayans (townmates) to get their booster injection or have themselves get vaccinated for their protection and the community.”

According to Fernandez, the inhabitants who are still unvaccinated include those who still have a phobia of getting the shot and those who lack time to visit the immunization clinics.

“We are currently taking the vaccination to the barangays so that it would be available to them and we would encourage them to get rid of their phobia. The inducement may even assist in persuading them, he continued.

At the Pinaslakas launch on August 15, Dr. Paula Paz Sydiongco, regional director of the Department of Health’s Center for Health and Development in Ilocos, praised the city for reaching the vaccination rate of 97.79 percent, which translated to 144,699 residents who had received all recommended vaccinations.

Over 1,000 people received vaccinations during the launch.

In Barangay Salisay, a similar vaccination campaign was previously carried out, and residents who participated received five kilograms of rice, free medical examinations from the City Health Office, and registration forms for the KonSulTa (Konsultasyong Sulit at Tama) program under the Universal Health Care.

The Pinaslakas team will administer vaccines in the city’s numerous commercial businesses and offices in addition to performing vaccination campaigns in the barangays.
