Task groups in Region 6 have asked the federal government for additional vaccines

The National Covid-19 Vaccination Operations Center has requested more coronavirus disease 2019 vaccinations for task forces in Western Visayas.

On June 15, 2021, the Western Visayas Regional Inter-Agency Task Force (RIATF 6) and the Regional Task Force (RTF) Against Covid-19 with local chief executives approved a resolution that included the proposal.

In a letter sent out on Friday, Christian Nagaynay, the RIATF’s chief secretariat, stated that although no particular amount was sought, the resolution reflected the mood of the task forces.

According to the resolution, “the majority of the LGUs (local government units) in the area have already consumed the vaccines allotted to them, and more are currently waiting for additional supplies from the national government to continue their inoculation activities.”

“Thousands of people come to vaccination clinics everyday to be vaccinated, demonstrating strong public acceptability of the Covid-19 vaccinations in the region,” it added.

For approval, the proposal was sent to the national IATF and the National Task Force Against Covid-19.

The city administration of Iloilo has been pleading for additional vaccine allocation since the number of cases of Covid-19 has risen, and the city’s supply would only last until June 23.

Business sectors, attorneys’ organizations, religious sectors, academe, and a group of doctors in Panay all signed the petition.

In addition, the Aklan branch of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) requested a larger allocation for the province.

In a letter dated June 16, the business group said that the increase in Covid-19 instances was the basis for the need for more supply.

The letter said that “both the Aklan province administration and the local government of Kalibo are prepared and have the required logistical and personnel capacities to conduct the inoculations as soon as the vaccinations are made available.”

According to statistics from the Regional Vaccination Operations Center (RVOC), the area has received 305, 420 doses of Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines for the first dosage as of June 6, with 274, 291 doses already used.

A total of 188, 220 doses were supplied to the area for the second dosage, with 91,366 doses being used.

An further 26,000 Sinovac vials arrived in the area on June 15.

Pfizer vaccinations were sent to Capiz and Negros Occidental on June 17th, with 2,340 doses and 1,950 vials, respectively.
