The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced on Tuesday that the government is developing policies to lessen the impact of rising costs for essential commodities on employees.

Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma claimed in a radio interview that other government departments are also searching for ways to help workers by offering them non-wage perks.

“We need to collaborate to find a solution. Departments that are involved in the economy are participating, according to Laguesma.

Laguesma continued by saying that they are also considering suggestions for changes to employee wages.

“The most current wage orders were only released in June of last year; each one is only valid for a maximum of five months, and the others still have the second tranche. Most Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPBs) offer a second tranche, with some offering it in December and others from January through April, according to the expert.

The National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) states that regional pay boards typically have a cap of one wage order every calendar year.

According to Laguesma, the regional wage boards are keeping an eye on additional elements to evaluate whether or not there will be further pay increases.
