Inside a warehouse in the province of Bulacan, customs authorities found a cache of allegedly smuggled smart television (TV) sets and computer systems, with a combined estimated value of PHP20 million.

The Letter of Authority (LOA) signed by Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio was served to representatives of ECOM Electronics Reconditioning Services located at RIS Industrial Complex in Guiguinto town on March 21 by a composite team led by Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) – Port of Manila, according to a statement released by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Wednesday.

Based on unfavorable information obtained regarding the subject warehouse, the LOA was given.

The group examined the area and found a variety of different-sized televisions, lamination equipment, packaging boxes, and raw supplies for reconditioning and repair.

The BOC seals were temporarily applied to the storage facility after the inventory, and a 24/7 duty detail was positioned at the entrance and exit gates of the warehouse.

The owners must provide documentation of importation or payment for the goods kept in the warehouse.

The contents of the warehouse could be subject to seizures and forfeitures if it is discovered that the import documents were improper, in violation of Republic Act No. 10863’s Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) Sections 1400 (Misdeclaration in Goods Declaration) and 1113 (Property Subject to Seizure and Forfeiture).

“This represents yet another endeavor that has been successful in halting smuggling operations and respecting local customs laws. The BOC is still dedicated to protecting the country’s borders and ensuring that import regulations are followed, the official continued.

Then, Rubio advised all companies and people to abide by customs laws and to abstain from criminal activity.
