In order to safeguard the sector from serious coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infection, Mayor Michael Rama announced on Monday that the city will increase immunization efforts for persons with disabilities (PWD) prior to the distribution of their financial assistance.

He added in a news conference that the city will execute the “Vaccination at Your Home” initiative for PWDs, which will transport vaccinators to the doorsteps of families with differently-abled members who are qualified for monetary support.

“Whether or not their (PWDs’) financial aid is released will be contingent on whether or not they are all vaccinated. The current emphasis of the city and the national government, of which President Rodrigo Duterte has long stated his aim that the Philippines be free of coronavirus issues,” Rama added.

The mayor directed Dr. Jeffrey Ibones, the head of the Cebu City Health Department, to open more pop-up immunization stations so that PWDs can get their Covid-19 vaccines without having to leave their homes.

He promised that all 12,000 PWDs in the city will receive cash assistance, but added that those who are fully vaccinated would be given priority, followed by those who are just partially vaccinated.

PWDs who are not immunized, either because they are bedridden or because they have a medical reason for not receiving any of the Covid-19 vaccines, will be the last to receive financial assistance.

Ibones recommended PWDs whose mobility is unaffected by any conditions to seek inoculation at any of the 80 barangay vaccination sites in the area.

The PHP1,000 monthly help for differently-abled folks will be distributed on December 11, but the city will begin vaccinations on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Rama declared that the city will stop using cash cards to distribute help to senior persons in order to reduce crowding at automated teller machine (ATM) booths.
