MANILA, Philippines — In the previous four weeks, the Quezon City government has recognized public collaboration in its successful campaign to drastically reduce Covid-19 occurrences.

This comes after the OCTA Research Group reported that from February 1 to 7, the city’s average of 255 cases per day dropped to 113 cases per day from February 8 to 14.

“Ang pagbaba ng positive rate na nasa 7.4 percent na lamang mula sa 8.9 percent ay ang kasabay nito.” (The city’s optimism rate has also dropped to 7.4 percent from 8.9 percent previously),” according to a city administration social media post.

The city’s reproduction number (RO) fell to less than 0.19 this week, down from 0.29 the week before.

“Ang R0 na mas mababa sa 1 ay nangangahulugan na ang bawat kumpirmadong kaso ng Covid-19 ay may maliit na tsansang makapanghawa, o magdulot ng bagong infection,” it stated.

The municipal government had only 962 current Covid-19 cases as of Wednesday, down from 6,282 on February 1.

Since the pandemic began in March 2022, the QC Epidemiology and Sickness Surveillance Unit (CESU) has reported that 256,361 people have recovered from the disease, accounting for 98.99 percent of the city’s total infections.

The city’s occupancy rate has also decreased to 0.81 percent, which means that only 11 of the 1,585 Covid-19 beds are occupied.

Despite the decrease in new cases, the municipal government continues to advise residents to observe basic health and safety precautions such as wearing face masks, hand washing or sanitizing often, and maintaining a safe physical distance.
