Solon claims that fewer imports could cut inflation.
The measures of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to cut down on agricultural smuggling and lessen the nation’s dependency on imports will safeguard farmers and their output, raise local agricultural productivity, and lower costs.
The Anti-Agricultural Smuggling Act, according to Senator JV Ejercito, has sufficient rules and methods to combat the effects of smuggling as well as the rising inflation.
“Just fully implementing them is left to do. In doing so, President BBM is on the right track “In a statement on Monday, Ejercito stated.
The senator claimed that a flood of agricultural goods being imported both legally and illegally is exacerbating the approaching food crisis.
Ejercito has introduced a measure that would create agri-food terminals and trading hubs in each province to expand regional agricultural markets and raise farmers’ incomes.
President Marcos has expressed willingness to continue importing some food goods, like as corn, pig, and rice, as well as coal, at lower tariffs to lower consumer prices, according to Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno.
To maintain pricing reasonable and accessible to the average person, Diokno added, “If demand surpasses supply and there will be a scarcity, we will continue to import for our food requirements.
Additionally, he pledged to continue President Marcos’ goal of promoting sustainable food and agricultural practices.
“At the same time, we intend to boost output, boost productivity, and perhaps even add new plants. He chose the position in agriculture because of this. He wants to concentrate on production, and he might achieve so by raising sector productivity and engaging in perhaps more sustained productive activities,” Diokno noted.
