The Philippines was once again selected as the “greatest country tourist destination in the world” at the 2022 Uzakrota Global Travel Awards, solidifying its status as a top-of-the-mind vacation destination even in the event of a pandemic.

With 721 votes, the nation outperformed every other nominee, winning the prize for a second time since it first held it in 2020.

The project was spearheaded by the Turkish travel agency Uzakrota Global, which also named Malaysia and the Dominican Republic as the top two and three countries in the world, receiving 523 and 459 votes, respectively.

In addition to the Uzakrota awards, the nation received 13 accolades in all categories offered by the US-based Scuba Diving Magazine’s 2023 Readers’ Choice Honours, including the top awards for Shore Diving.

According to Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco, “as the international recognition for the Philippines grows, so too does the role of tourism as an engine of the Philippines’ economic growth under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., whose prioritization of tourism has brought much optimism and hope for the industry.”

As indicated by the almost two million visitors we have received so far, these accolades “represent the global traveling public’s vote of confidence and enthusiasm for our country.”

The nation came in second place in the categories of Macro Life, Cavern/Cave & Grotto Diving, Beginners, Photography, and Best Value; third place in the category of Wreck Diving; fourth place in the category of Advanced Diving; fifth place in the category of Best Overall; and ninth place in the category of Big Animals for the Pacific and Indian Ocean cluster.

The nation has also previously been recognized by the World Travel Awards as the Top Dive Destination in the World for 2022.

In the meantime, the US-based online travel resource Go Lemming has included Cebu in its list of the 50 “best places to travel in 2023.”

Cebu is “ideal for all types of tourists” and “enables you to enjoy in both exhilarating events and beachfront tranquility,” according to Travel Lemming.

Another US-based travel guide Fodor listed Palawan, another important Philippine tourist destination, as one of the 40 places to visit in 2023.

One of the most stunning islands in the Philippines, Palawan is described by Fodor as “the exact epitome of eco-luxury” and “where aquatic worlds meet lush woods.”

The Philippines offers a wide range of tourist types and a lot more destinations outside the well-known Boracay, Cebu, and Palawan.

Adventure-seeking tourists will find lots of captivating waterfalls, caves, and rock formations in Samar, Biliran, and Leyte alone, which makes them great stops.

Meanwhile, Siquijor in Central Visayas is ideal for travelers looking for a laid-back atmosphere and a less crowded island getaway.

BI: In October, there were over 600,000 visitors.

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported that it anticipates a rise in the number of travelers entering the nation during the holiday season.

According to BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval, more than 600,000 tourists entered the nation in October alone.

“634,000 people arrived throughout the month of October. Therefore, it is clear that it will rise in November and December. Up until January, which is when travel is at its busiest. We have noticed an increase over the last few months, she said in a Laging Handa briefing on Thursday.

This was attributed by Sandoval to the easing of travel restrictions brought on by the improvement in the nation’s coronavirus situation.

But she said that in December of the previous year, they had fewer than 200,000 tourist arrivals.

The BI official continued, “In December 2021, barely over 195,000 overall arrivals for the entire month, which is lower than pre-pandemic statistics.”

In an effort to boost the economy amid the pandemic, the authorities loosened entry requirements earlier this year.
