NTF-ELCAC: P10-B funding is essential for bolstering the anti-insurgency drive.
The National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) applauded lawmakers’ decision to reinstate its PHP10 billion budget for 2023 on Tuesday, saying it is essential for continuing the struggle against communist insurgency.
Col. Stephen Cabanlet, the NTF-director ELCAC’s for stakeholders engagement, told reporters that it was crucial because if the government failed to fulfill the promises it made regarding the projects it would provide influenced barangays, the enemies of the country would take advantage of the situation to retaliate against the government.
He continued by saying that the New People’s Army (NPA) will probably insult those who surrendered by informing them that their attempts to reintegrate into society are futile because the government is unable to keep its promises.
“They will probably say that you surrendered because the government pledged to give you roads but you still don’t have any, despite the fact that it made the promise. I said that the government would give me roads but I still don’t have any, so I surrendered. They’ll use it as a prop in their narratives (against the government), “Cabanlet made a mention.
Additionally, he made it clear that the majority of this money will be put to good use in priority barangays and areas of influence, where the military had previously evicted NPA members, by installing water and electrical infrastructure and providing livelihood.
According to Cabanlet, military personnel are actively participating in these communities and performing community work.
He continued by saying that this is crucial because it enables soldiers to assess the requirements of these areas.
