Over 40% of new Covid-19 cases in the US are due to the new Omicron subvariant.
According to statistics updated Friday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, new Omicron subvariant XBB.1.5 is thought to be responsible for 40.5% of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the United States in the week ending December 31, nearly tripling from the prior week (CDC).
XBB.1.5 accounted for 21.7 percent of all cases for the week ending December 24.
According to CDC data, recombinants of the BA.2 variety, XBB, and XBB.1.5 collectively accounted for 44.1% of all cases in the nation for the week ending December 31.
As cases of the XBB variety have increased in several regions of Asia, concerns have been raised about its high infectiousness.
According to the most recent week of CDC data, two more Omicron subvariants, BQ.1 and BQ.1.1, were responsible for around 45 percent of new Covid-19 cases in the United States.
