Senator Gatchalian optimistic about collaborative WPS exploration discussions with China



Under the presidency of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Senator Sherwin Gatchalian expects that the joint exploration negotiations between the Philippines and China on the West Philippine Seas (WPS) will be fruitful.
Gatchalian stated on Sunday that the Philippine Constitution must be upheld, including the 60/40 sharing of any products as stipulated by national law, as in any negotiations with foreign nations.
Gatchalian pointed out that the fact that China is adamant about its stance is a barrier to the discussions’ success.
He is expecting that with the new administration, a deal might be possible.
