A task force on school safety was pressed to be created.
The creation of a joint task force on school safety was suggested by the chair of the House Committee on the Welfare of Children on Monday in order to address the rising number of violent assaults on students that occur on campuses and in the area around campuses.
Rep. Angelica Natasha Co of the BHW Party list requested that the Departments of Social Welfare and Development, Education, Interior, and Local Government, and Justice establish a joint task force and coordinate their efforts to combat suicides, homicides, and other violent crimes.
Co made the appeal in response to the most recent incident at Culiat High School in Barangay Culiat in Quezon City, where a Grade 7 student was fatally stabbed by a classmate.
Co stated that there had been numerous more fatal stabbings and violent acts involving both students and teachers, thus “this stabbing incidence cannot be merely an isolated incident.”
One issue, according to her, is that instances and assaults are often forgotten about after the “initial outrage and sorrow lasting a few days.”
“That shouldn’t be, though. That is not fair. The welfare of children, teachers, and their families are not ultimately served by this “She spoke.
She asserted that it is past time for these organizations to ensure case updates and the upkeep of an ongoing case database.
“Additional precautions at schools and in communities, as well as updated case management procedures, may be required. Anumang uri ng patalim or bawal pong magdala ng kutsilyo in a parralel (Knives and other sharp objects should be prohibited in schools). Every time there are violent situations during sports and in the aftermath, even more precautions must be taken “She stated.
She stated that because violent episodes in schools affect not just the person who is stabbed but also other members of the school community, crisis response procedures and psychological debriefings for people traumatized by stabbing incidents must also be implemented.
