South Korea reports low birth rates in November.
According to figures released on Thursday, the number of newborns born in South Korea hit another record low in November, highlighting the nation’s serious population issue.
According to statistics from Statistics Korea, a total of 18,982 babies were born in November, a decrease of 4.3 percent from the prior year. Since the statistics agency began accumulating comparable data in 1981, it represented the lowest number for any November.
Because of the ongoing economic recession and high property costs, many young people in South Korea continue to put off or give up having children.
A total of 231,863 babies were born between January and November, which decreased by 4.7% from the previous year.
According to the data, its total fertility rate, or the average number of children a woman bears over her lifetime, was just 0.79 in the third quarter. It was 0.81 in 2021, the fourth year in a row that it was below one. It was significantly below the replacement level of 2.1 required to maintain South Korea’s population at 51.5 million.
It is also commonly anticipated that South Korea, which for the first time in 2020 reported more deaths than births, will continue the pattern in 2022 for the third straight year. There were 107,004 additional fatalities in South Korea between January and November.
In November, there were 30,107 fatalities, which is an increase of 6.1% from the same month last year.
As a result of the relaxed Covid-19 regulations, more people got married in November, according to the data, which revealed that the number of marriages increased 2.2 percent year over year to 17,458.
8,498 divorce cases were filed in the month, a 3.1% year-over-year decline.
