To 50K new voters in Negros Occidental, according to the Comelec

According to information released by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) here on Monday, 47,287 people in Negros Occidental, including this capital city, have registered as new voters.

On Tuesday, the ongoing registration period for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) will come to a conclusion.

According to provincial election supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria, fewer people applied this week likely as a result of the fact that practically everyone who was interested had previously been mentioned.

But, he told reporters, “we’re still getting ready for the last day scenario on January 31.

Ananoria stated that it would be “good enough” if up to 50,000 new voters were registered in Negros Occidental.

11,640 of the total applications who have been admitted since December 12 are between the ages of 15 and 17; these individuals will elect the next slate of SK officials.

“Satellite registration has been taking place in schools. We urge young people to sign up,” Ananoria stated.

More than 12,000 people have registered here out of the 47,287 overall registrants.

Ananoria urged Negrenses who wished to vote in the October elections to register by Tuesday.

“If you register now, you can also vote in the midterm elections in 2025,” he continued.

The Comelec stated last week that the forthcoming elections are anticipated to be ready in May.

According to Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco, preparations began last year because the election was originally slated for December before being moved to 2023.

The bill delaying the Dec. 5, 2022 BSKE to Oct. 30, this year, was signed into law by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in October of last year.
