Bus terminal security was increased in preparation for Holy Week and Araw ng Dabaw.

While the 86th Araw ng Dabaw festivities got underway over the weekend, security at the bus terminal in this city was tightened, according to a DCOTT officer on Tuesday.

According to DCOTT manager Aisa Usop, the preparations are also made in order to observe Holy Week the following month.

“Inside the terminal, the cops are patrolling. During peak season, the Task Force Davao (TFD) also increases its staff “Usop stated, adding that whenever there are major events in the city, there would inevitably be an increase in travelers.

In order to ensure the safety of the passengers, Usop said that they had already negotiated with the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) and TFD for additional security officers to man the terminal.

For the celebration of the Araw ng Dabaw and Holy Week, bus operators were also instructed to add buses and apply for special licenses from the Land Transportation and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Usop stated that bus units are still not permitted to be picked up outside of terminals.
An estimated 14,000 security and safety professionals have been deployed, according to Angel Sumagaysay, chief of the Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO), just for the month-long Araw ng Dabaw celebration.

Sumagaysay discouraged people from bringing backpacks, opaque water containers, and sharp objects during the festivities while also reminding everyone to adhere to safety and security procedures.
