According to Dr. Ma. Theresa Bad-ang, nephrologist and director of the Southern Philippines Medical Center – Human Advocacy and Retrieval Effort, the city has maintained its third-place ranking in the nation for the highest prevalence of kidney disorders since 2017.

“About 2,400 people in this city and the rest of the Davao Region are receiving dialysis treatment, according to Bad-ang, who spoke with media during the World Kidney Day celebration on Thursday afternoon.

“World Kidney Day is observed to further increase awareness and stop it from happening to us since we need to prevent dialysis, “added Bad-ang.

Another nephrologist, Dr. Floin Quibo Galvadores, called the city’s kidney disease instances “alarming. It is crucial to raise awareness of CKD, particularly in Davao City.”

Galvadores claimed they witnessed an increase in the number of dialysis centers springing up in this city due to the increased cases of people requiring dialysis therapy.

“If we need to reduce the number of instances, we shouldn’t be content that these dialysis facilities exist. It shouldn’t turn into some sort of business, and the number of instances shouldn’t rise “She spoke.

The association also exhorted the general public to get screened, particularly if they have a family history of kidney failure, diabetes, or high blood pressure.
