In order to be ready for the increased demand this summer and the El Nino phenomena, the Sibalom Water District (SWD) is repairing and maintaining one of its three water pumping stations.

In an interview conducted on Monday, SWD general manager Engr. Jonathan De Gracia stated that the company began repairing and maintaining its pumping station in Barangay District 1 on March 25 and 26 and will do so again from March 29 to April 1.

“We apologize for the water interruption our customers experienced over the weekend, but by October, we need to be ready for the high demand associated with summer and the El Nino phenomenon,” he said.

De Gracia claimed that in order to increase the amount of water available, they needed to extend the depth of their pumping station in Barangay District 1 to 40 feet rather than the current 30 feet.

During the summer, it is anticipated that the present demand of 2,500 cubic meters per day will rise to 3,000 cubic meters.

The 4,000 SWD customers are urged to conserve water for household consumption and other uses in advance of the scheduled maintenance this March 29–April 1.

“Water consumers are being urged to conserve water, especially in the upland areas of Barangays Bari, Districts 3 and 4,” he said.

He said that the two pumping stations’ produced water might not be able to reach the upland barangays.
