The PNA-BTA news agreement aims to promote Philippine tourism in Bulgaria.
By signing a partnership agreement with the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), the second of its type with a European Union (EU) member state, the state-run Philippine News Agency (PNA) seeks to bring the best of what the nation has to offer closer to Bulgaria, particularly potential tourists.
The deal, which was formally inked on April 4 in Sofia’s capital, would make it easier for the two agencies to share news and media information.
Executive Editor Demetrio B. Pisco Jr., Deputy Executive Editor Luis A. Morente, and Director-General Kiril Valchev of the BTA sign on behalf of the PNA.
In light of the fact that our countries will be celebrating 50 years of diplomatic ties this year, Pisco remarked on Thursday that reviving ties with the Bulgarian news agency would be advantageous to both of our nations.
We will undoubtedly provide a lot of news regarding travel and tourism given its widespread appeal and significant impact on the world economy. Filipino and Bulgarian nationals will undoubtedly be interested in visiting both countries’ world-class and well-known tourist spots in the near future, he continued.
Since the Philippines’ coronavirus limitations were further relaxed, it was expected that the number of Bulgarian visitors would rise.
According to the most recent data from the Department of Tourism, just the first two months of 2023 saw 725 tourists from Bulgaria.
There were 999 Bulgarian visitors to the Philippines in total in the previous year.
The cooperation pact was signed on Nov. 16, 1973, the official day of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Bulgaria, and Pisco referred to it as “historic” for the PNA.
In the Philippines, Bulgaria has no diplomatic representation. Vietnam is where its closest embassy is situated.
Similarly to that, there is no Philippine embassy in the country of southeast Europe, although Philippine Ambassador Frank Cimafranca serves as the non-resident representative.
Despite this, both countries are looking for new ways to “promote” bilateral collaboration, especially in the areas of trade and investment.
Presidents Cimafranca and Rumen Radev of Bulgaria agreed in January 2023 that it was necessary “to resume the political consultations this year.”
Prior to the agreement being signed in Bulgaria, the Philippine News Agency (PNA) and the Italian ANSA or Agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata signed a news exchange agreement on March 30 at the Philippine Embassy in Rome.
