PAL: No changes to flights on May 17 due to maintenance; delays are expected

The two-hour corrective maintenance at the Philippine Air Traffic Management Center (ATMC) on May 17 has not resulted in any changes to the flight itineraries of flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL). Still, the airline has warned that delays are probable.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the air traffic management system (ATMS) at the ATMC will be improved from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. on that date. The uninterruptible power supply (UPS) will also be changed.

PAL stated that it “will strive to maintain normal flight schedules” during the two-hour window in a warning on Friday.

It also said that one of the two runways at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, which will remain open for takeoffs, will be used for flights leaving there.

“As a precaution, we worked with aviation authorities to put in place contingency plans to ensure that flight departures and arrivals within the said period are supported with the necessary air navigation guidance for safety and operational efficiency,” the advisory stated.

Flight delays are anticipated owing to restrictions, according to PAL.

It is suggested that passengers check the PAL website, which the airline claims is updated in real-time, to check the status of their flights. It stated there was no requirement to speak with the PAL Contact Center to confirm the data.

CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio informed the Philippine News Agency that Runway 13/31 in Manila allows additional communication channels between pilots and the Control Tower. As a result, this would permit aircraft to land or take off while the ATMC was performing maintenance.

According to the spokesperson, only Runway 06/24 will be shut down from 12:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. on May 17 as part of CAAP’s repair work.
