DTI praises the SSF Program’s institutionalization.

Alfredo Pascual, secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), has applauded the Senate’s decision to institutionalize the agency’s Shared Service Facility (SSF) Program.

In a statement on Thursday, Pascual stated that passing Senate Bill No. 2021, which seeks to alter Republic Act (RA) No. 6977, also known as the Magna Carta for Small Enterprises, will ensure that MSMEs, particularly those in the provinces, continue to get support.

The General Appropriations Act (GAA) will provide annual financing for the DTI’s SSF Program thanks to SB 2021, which the Senate adopted on Monday.

Pascual added in Filipino, “Now that this has been approved, the DTI will work with different agencies to further expand the program’s scope and meet the needs of the MSMEs, especially in this era of modern technology.”

The development of about 3,495 SSFs nationwide was made possible by the government’s allocation of PHP3.9 billion for the SSF Program in 2013.

According to the DTI, these facilities have aided around 500,000 MSMEs and created an extra 300,000 jobs.

Since the beginning of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s administration, DTI has created 145 SSFs with funding totaling about PHP150 million.

The recently opened SSFs will be used to produce abaca, bamboo, cocoa, coffee, beef, and fertilizer, among other things.

Additionally, 16 fabrication laboratories (fab labs) are spread out around the nation to assist MSMEs in creating prototypes of their designs.

To help them keep up with the latest trends and further boost their income, Pascual continued, “They (MSMEs) need to keep up with the innovation and original ideas of businesses abroad.”
