Along with rice and water, the province of Antique has prepared family food packets worth PHP300,000 for any families that Super Typhoon Mawar may force to evacuate.

In a Friday interview, social worker Jason Alagos, who oversees the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office’s Disaster Response, revealed that family meal packets containing noodles, canned goods, coffee, and chocolate have already been created.

Along with the food packs, there are also 120 water bottles and 220 sacks of rice prepared for distribution.

Additionally active and prepared for any situation during the weather disturbance is the PSWDO Quick Response Team.

In a related event, Governor Arthur Defensor of Iloilo claimed that the province has already started preparing for Mawar.

Defensor stated at a press conference on Friday that “we also have relief goods and assets prepared in case the situation worsens due to the typhoon.”

He could not give the number of family food packets the provincial government had prepared, though.

At the same time, Defensor stated that they are closely monitoring a temporary bailey bridge in Barangay Oyungan in Miag-ao town after the permanent bridge was destroyed by Typhoon Paeng last year.

With Miag-ao being the second municipality along the border of Iloilo and Antique, the bridge is crucial for commuters traveling to the nearby province of Antique.

He claimed that they are keeping an eye on the bridge, particularly if there is a chance of heavy rain, which could cause a landslide or flash flood brought on by the typhoon.
