This town’s mayor, Michael Carleone Cruz, has mandated the temporary closure of a poultry farm due to an infestation of houseflies.

Cruz stated in Executive Order (EO) No. 31, published on Monday that the Municipal Health Office (MHO) had undertaken an investigation and made suggestions, which the owner of Prime Hen Poultry Farm had to consider.

The fly infestation or fly swarming issue caused by the operation of Prime Hen Poultry Farm in the Barangays of Cabatuan, Carosalesan, Bantug, Don Montano, Maseil-seil, and other nearby barangays is very obvious and apparent as observed in the said barangays as posted on social media, reported in radio stations, newspapers, and television, he said.

Cruz stated that until the road reconstruction leading to the poultry farm is finished or a backup plan for transporting goods is established, the poultry farm would be temporarily closed and its operations suspended.

The farm must also abide by the MHO’s conclusions or recommendations.

“The Barangay Council of Cabatuan, together with the sanitary inspector and MHO, are directed to ensure that the poultry farm owner undertakes no activities or operations during the implementation of the EO,” the order stated.

Judith de Leon, a private individual and a resident of Poblacion East, sent the Sangguniang Bayan a letter of complaint demanding a full investigation into the housefly infestation in their community.

“The social media reports about houseflies from our various barangays are quite disturbing. Why have houseflies suddenly become so prevalent in our town? A housefly infestation can be annoying and dangerous to one’s health, she stated in the letter.

On June 19, the local authorities held talks with the proprietors of many poultry farms that were thought to be the root of the housefly infestation, including Prime Hen Poultry Farm.
