πŸ”ŽπŸ’ NAPC collaborates with LGUs to identify key anti-poverty programs 🀝🌍

The National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) is working closely with local government units (LGUs) to assist the Marcos administration in identifying priority programs that will effectively address poverty in the country.

During the Laging Handa program, NAPC lead convenor Lope Santos III highlighted the importance of collaboration with LGUs, aligning with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to prioritize support for the most disadvantaged individuals and communities.

“We are coordinating with the local government units to identify focused anti-poverty programs and give them priority,” Santos explained.

Santos also urged LGUs nationwide to develop their own Local Poverty Reduction Action Plans. In line with this, the NAPC, in collaboration with the Department of the Interior and Local Government, will release guidelines for the formulation and implementation of these plans.

“In due time, we will release the guidelines,” Santos confirmed.

During the first NAPC en banc meeting, convened by Marcos on June 30 at MalacaΓ±an Palace, Santos emphasized the intention to roll out the Local Poverty Reduction Action Plan in 2024, ensuring its integration into provincial development plans, fiscal frameworks, and comprehensive development plans of LGUs.

Santos added that the NAPC aims to complete the National Anti-Poverty Action Agenda by September and the National Poverty Reduction Plan by October of this year.

The Marcos administration has set a target to reduce the poverty rate to 9 percent by 2028.

In addition, the NAPC is expected to release the final version of the revised implementing rules and regulations of Republic Act 11921, known as the Magna Carta of the Poor. This law, enacted on April 12, 2019, guarantees the rights of the poor to essentials such as adequate food, decent work, quality education, proper housing, and optimum health standards.

Under the Magna Carta of the Poor, the government is mandated to establish a progressive implementation system that provides the necessary conditions, opportunities, and requirements for the full realization of the five fundamental rights of the poor, crucial steps towards alleviating poverty. πŸ“œπŸ€πŸ’
