Comelec: Holding voter registration at malls
Voter registration will be held at malls throughout the country shortly, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
This comes as the polling organization prepares to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOA) with Robinsons Land Corporation on July 12 to put up voter registration booths at certain Robinsons malls throughout the country.
“By establishing registration booths in malls, we want to offer a more accessible and efficient registration experience for the public, as well as provide alternative satellite registration locations. Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said in a statement on Wednesday, “We are pleased to once again work with Robinsons Land Corporation in providing efficient public service ahead of the 2022 National and Local Elections.”
In 12 p.m., the MOA will be signed at the Xian Tian Di, Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila, Ortigas Center, Quezon City.
At the National Capital Region, Central Luzon, North Luzon, South Luzon, Central Visayas, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Mindanao, registration booths will be set up in selected Robinsons Malls.
“Once the malls have been selected and the schedules have been set, candidates will be able to submit their forms and documentation requirements, as well as have their biometrics data collected in the comfort and convenience of mall spaces,” Jimenez said.
Due to mall hours, a limited number of applications will be accepted daily at satellite registration locations in malls. Only inhabitants of the neighborhood or those wishing to transfer their registration records to the neighborhood will be considered.
“Once the full list of mall registration schedules is ready, we will disclose it. However, the public may ask directly with their local Comelec office regarding timetables particular to their city or municipality,” the poll authority spokesman said.
Meanwhile, applicants with a quick response (QR) code from the smartphone application will be considered if the mall’s neighborhood is one of the app’s trial zones.
Comelec and Robinsons erected mall registration booths for the 2020 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections from August to September 2019.
