According to Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion, companies are expecting that the government would put Metro Manila on Alert Level 1 in November or December to assist them in recovering from pandemic-related losses.

Concepcion said at the Laging Handa public briefing on Tuesday that the National Capital Region (NCR) is ready for the safe resumption of economic activities since the vaccination rate has reached 80 percent of the target population.

Concepcion said that if limitations are eased further, the authorized operational capacity of businesses may increase to 70%.

“Because at 30% (capacity), you hardly have any revenue.” Now, at 50%, you can make some money, but not much, but they will be able to fulfill their commitments and hopefully carry them through till 2022,” he stated in a combination of English and Filipino.

Concepcion also supports plans to reopen theaters for those who have been properly vaccinated.

“We’ve been utilizing movie theaters to vaccinate our workers.” So, if we’re already utilizing theaters for staff vaccinations – which is usually done in all movies – (then) they are safe. “If that cinema is unsafe, we will not utilize it,” he said.

According to him, the fourth quarter of the year is a critical time for companies since consumer spending rises.

Concepcion said that with the introduction of additional Covid-19 vaccinations in the country, the whole population would be protected.

This would encourage more economic activity to resume in the following months, he said.

Meanwhile, Concepcion said that the business sector has already been proactive in preventing a rise of Delta variations, as seen in other Southeast Asian nations, by supporting the lockdown in early August.

With the number of Covid-19 cases decreasing and immunization efforts rising, he believes relaxing restrictions in commercial facilities is appropriate.
