The government is speeding up the delivery of Pfizer vaccines for children aged 5 to 11.

Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the primary implementer of the National Task Force (NTF) against Covid-19, stated Wednesday that the government is speeding up the delivery of the “minimized microgram” Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccines for children aged five to eleven years old.

Galvez said he will speak with the Philippine Ambassador to the United States of America Jose “Babe” Romualdez about the fast-tracking of specific Pfizer doses for children to begin providing them with protection against the dreaded disease during President Rodrigo Duterte’s prerecorded Talk to the People.

“And ipu-pursue natin ang (We will pursue) vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 when the prepared vaccine β€”- have been β€”- arrives,” Galvez, who is also the country’s vaccine czar, said.

The National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) previously stated that the specific vaccination schedule for this age group will be released as soon as Covid-19 vaccines and syringes are available.

The Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine is scheduled to be given to at least 13.5 million children in this age group at a lower dose.

Meanwhile, Galvez stressed the importance of strengthening local government units (LGUs) vaccination capacities in order to maintain the Covid-19 immunization program as the national and municipal elections approach.

“Our local government units should stay focused on getting immunizations to different barangays and cities while also maintaining their mega sites,” he said.

He also encouraged local governments to set up mobile immunization teams in each barangay, citing a similar vaccination technique used in General Santos City.

Galvez stated that local governments should ensure the accessibility and integrity of the vaccination information system, which includes the distribution of vaccination cards and travel authorization, among other things.

The government’s major challenge, according to the vaccination czar, is tackling the “unwillingness of others to be vaccinated and obtain their boosters.”

Galvez, on the other hand, stated that the Department of Health (DOH), in collaboration with the commercial sector, is now working hard to promote public acceptance.

“With the massing of individuals in the various vaccination sites, we were able to increase vaccination uptake during our national vaccination series. The successful immunization days will be repeated. This time, the focus will be on our elders as well as the, “Added he.
