The Department of Health reports 36.6 thousand Covid-19 recoveries and 23 thousand new infections.

For the second day in a row, the number of new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections fell below 30,000, with only 22,958 new cases recorded on Wednesday.

The Department of Health (DOH) reported in its Covid-19 bulletin that this brought the total number of active cases to 270,728, down from Tuesday’s 284,458.

The number of new infections on Wednesday is also lower than the 28,471 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, another 36,611 infections were recovered, bringing the overall number of recoveries to 2,969,853, or 90.2 percent of the 3,293,625 infections registered since the pandemic began in March 2020.

“Of the 22,959 cases reported today, 21,691 (94 percent) occurred in the last 14 days โ€” January 6, 2021 to January 19, 2022,” according to the DOH.

The death toll has risen to 53,044 as a result of 82 new fatalities, accounting for 1.61 percent of all cases.

Due to late encoding of death information to COVIDKaya, 56 deaths occurred in January 2022 (68 percent), eight in October 2021 (10 percent), 15 in September 2021 (18 percent), one in July 2021 (1 percent), one in May 2021 (1 percent), and one in January 2021 (1 percent), according to the DOH.

“Approximately 91 duplicates were removed from the total case count, with 64 of them being recoveries,” according to the agency.

Meanwhile, after validation, 32 cases formerly categorized as recoveries were reclassified as fatalities.

On January 17, all laboratories were operational, but six of them were unable to submit data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.

Based on data from the previous 14 days, the six laboratories are responsible for 1.5 percent of all samples examined and 1.9 percent of positive persons, according to the DOH.

Patients with Covid-19 have used 49 percent of 3,700 ICU beds, 51 percent of 20,300 isolation beds, 53 percent of 14,300 ward beds, and 23 percent of 3,100 ventilators nationwide to date.
