The vax effort is targeting private pharmacies and clinics across the country.

By mid-February, the government intends to expand the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) immunization push in pharmacies across the country.

In a Saturday television interview, Department of Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje stated the immunization effort will be expanded to the rest of the National Capital Region (NCR), Central Luzon, and Calabarzon in Phase 2.

“Phase 3 may be [held] nationwide in the second week of February,” added Cabotaje, who is also the chair of the National Vaccination Operations Center.

She noted that since the immunization program began two days ago in seven pharmacies, 1,860 people aged 18 and up have obtained their booster injections.

Adults can get Covid-19 booster shots from pharmacies, while clinics can get both the primary and booster doses.

“Ang tinatawag nating bayanihan kung sama-sama ang pinaka-benefit ng programang ito.” So sama-sama tayo ng mga pwedeng tumulong ng private sector para ang bakuna ay magiging accessible pa sa lahat ng Pilipino (Unity and cooperation are the key benefits of this program.) “Anybody from the commercial sector who wants to contribute, let’s all work together to make vaccines accessible to all Filipinos),” Carlito Galvez Jr., chief secretary of the National Task Force against Covid-19, said during a vaccination program at the QualiMed clinic in Makati City on Friday.

Mercury Drug Quirino Avenue, Malate, Manila; Southstar Drug Marikina; Watsons at SM Center Pasig; Generika Drugstore in Signal 1, Taguig; The Generics Pharmacy in Barangay Sun Valley, Paranaque; QualiMed Clinic McKinley Road, Makati; and Healthway Manila clinic in Ermita were the first five pharmacies and two clinics in the NCR to begin vaccination.

“Vaccination will be free in pharmacies and clinics for the whole week of the pilot,” she stated.

The government is also considering several measures to ensure that free vaccination is available in pharmacies and clinics throughout the year. The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation is one alternative.
